Talk about threatening-looking weather…

August 30, 2005, 5:15 PM

Threatening looking clouds over the Waynesboro Wal-Mart

Is that scary enough for you? That’s the sight I was greeted with upon leaving work today at 4:00 in the afternoon. That is some seriously threatening-looking weather. What this is from is thunderstorm activity that the weather forecasters said will precede the remnants of Hurricane Katrina later on. These thunderstorms are unrelated to the tropical system’s remnants. When all of us on the safety team at Wal-Mart went out to the garden center in the morning, we looked outside, and everyone agreed it looked pretty threatening even then. It then proceeded to rain within minutes of our looking outside.

And then I’m going to Washington on Wednesday. That ought to be fun. I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do yet, but I might very well end up checking out Crystal City if the weather ends up being really wet. Crystal City is neat, as it’s a classic underground city. All the buildings are connected by underground corridors, with shops and restaurants and the like along the way. And periodically, you’ll find a bank of elevators along the way, serving one of the many high-rise buildings. The last time I was in Crystal City was April 14, 2004, when I went hunting through there ahead of time to help Dad find a particular office building where he had an appointment. I then met him at Vienna later on in the day and took him straight to the building. I don’t remember exactly which specific building it was, but it was definitely one of the Crystal Gateway buildings. I could probably take you to it without any problems. Still, Crystal City is kind of fun. So we’ll see what kind of mischief I can get into this time around.

Web site: Wikipedia on Hurricane Katrina, which has everyone around here a little nervous. At least this storm's not another Hurricane Camille, which this storm had the potential of being.

Song: "Gonna Always Love You" from The Muppets Take Manhattan. The television show Muppet Babies is loosely based on this particular scene in the movie.

Quote: "That's one scary-looking cloud there..."
