He’s the… ROLLBACK MAN!

January 9, 2004, 10:08 PM

I have to say… I’ve been a fan of Wal-Mart’s little happy face character that they use for their “Rollback” promotions ever since they started dressing him up.

I first remember seeing him dressed up in Staunton wearing a hard hat with the phrase “Wal-Mart at work, watch for falling prices” on the signs. It was so clever.

Recall that before they started dressing up our friend, they did the whole “Rollback America” theme. Not nearly as clever. I like my happy face.

After “Wal-Mart at work”, I remember seeing him dressed as Zorro. Saw him on the commercials with a big black hat and a mask over his eyes cutting the prices with his sword.

More recently, our little Rollback face was dressed up as Robin Hood, hitting the prices with his arrow, in a new way to roll back prices.

I saw the most current theme for our Rollback face on TV recently. They took the “Secret Agent Man” song and gave our favorite smiley face a James Bond theme. “He’s the… rollback man!” is the new slogan, and it’s catchy. In our new Waynesboro store (it opens January 21, hope to see you there), we have signs with the new James Bond theme hanging from the ceiling near the registers.

Needless to say, I enjoy my job and all of that which comes with it.

I wonder if our Rollback Man likes his martinis shaken, not stirred…
