RSSSplash Photo Archives

Splash Page, April 2012When I redesigned the site in 2002 to the “Minimalist” design, I also redesigned the splash page (example seen at right), which, from February 2001 until June 30, 2012, was the first page people saw when entering the site.  Until August 2002, the splash page contained the logo in large size and the URL, with an invitation to click to enter.  With the 2002 redesign, the splash page reduced the size of the logo and added a picture of me, which I changed monthly.  This was the splash page’s design for more than nine years, with only minor color changes throughout the years until the splash page was discontinued with the completion of the site’s conversion to WordPress in 2012.  At that time, the splash photo feature was temporarily moved to the Welcome page.  When the site was redesigned in September 2012, the splash photo, though now smaller in size, was placed in the upper right corner of every page.

Since August 2002, I have run many photos in the spaces where the splash photo has resided, with “whatever I find interesting” as the guideline.  All of the photos that have come and gone over the years are listed here, and I hope that you will find these photos interesting, too…

November 2012

Duckpin bowling at White Oak Lanes.

Notes: For more photos from this same event, see A whole bunch of bowling videos… in the Journal.

October 2012

Standing with a bear at a gift shop in Natural Bridge, Virginia.

Notes: This was the first Splash Photo to appear in the site's header following a site redesign that went live on September 30, 2012.

September 2012

Self-portrait at CVS.

Notes: I am wearing a Rowan University shirt in this photo. My parents went to college here, albeit while the school was named Glassboro State College.

August 2012

All smiles in Chicago with my sister, Ann Lysy.

July 2012

Jumping off the edge of the fountain (down to the sidewalk) in Dupont Circle.

Notes: This Splash Photo was the first to appear on the Welcome page rather than the old splash page, which was part of a change implemented during the site's conversion to WordPress. Additionally, this Splash Photo was the first to appear with a horizontal aspect ratio, made possible by the relocation of the feature.

June 2012

Standing at the water’s edge at the Baltimore Inner Harbor, while wearing my Power Rangers shirt.

Notes: For the corresponding Journal entry, see So the Baltimore Inner Harbor was fun…

May 2012

Power Rangers In Space-style morph.

Notes: This image is adapted from the Power Rangers In Space morph sequence. For images of what this is based on, see Power Rangers Unpatched. This image changes the aspect ratio on the morph graphic to fit the website, and personalizes it, including using my background (it is my square background, albeit in black), and customizing the icons for me. The photo of me is part of the group that I did as part of the swimsuit modeling Journal entry in January 2012, however, the soul patch that I had at the time the photo was taken has been digitally removed. The text in the upper left corner is the same as on television, and the "SP-WEPON" text is similarly misspelled on television.

April 2012

Self-portrait on the Metro.

Notes: This photo was part of an amusing impromptu photo shoot that I did of myself on the Metro coming home from work. See "A new geeky shirt and a 30-minute Metro ride inspire me to have some fun..." in the Journal for more amusing photos from this shoot. I am riding on Alstom 6110.

March 2012

Posing with two fire alarms that I made out of Legos at the Lego store at Arundel Mills.

Notes: For more pictures of the Lego fire alarms, see "Yes, I am probably the only one who would make fire alarms out of Legos..." in the Journal.

February 2012

Getting ready to take the plunge at the 2012 “Keep Winter Cold” polar bear plunge.

Notes: For more details about the 2012 "Keep Winter Cold" polar bear plunge, see "First it was cold, and then it was colder..." in the Journal.

January 2012

Ringing in the new year with fireworks – sparklers in this case.

December 2011

Season’s greetings from The Schumin Web.

Notes: This photo is designed to reproduce the splash photo from December 2010. Compare this photo against the older photo to see how much weight I lost over the course of a year!

November 2011

Showing off a new refrigerator for the office before it is delivered.

October 2011

Making a pose somewhat reminiscent of the Thunder Megazord’s finishing move from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Notes: Specifically, this pose is just before the Thunder Megazord does its finishing move. Normally, the Thunder Megazord would step back and raise its sword, while mountains would appear behind it. The moment that the mountains appear is what this pose is supposed to illustrate. The "sword" is a mailing tube, and the "mountains" are a rock that I photographed on the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2006.

September 2011

At the big Lincoln Park Whole Foods store in Chicago.

August 2011

Sitting on the sidewalk in my “TXL Series 4” shirt.

July 2011

Smiling with a bag of bran that a coworker got for me.

June 2011

Wearing my “Camp Rainbow” tee after getting a little wet on the log flume ride at Kings Dominion.

Notes: Fans of the show Today's Special will find the humor in getting wet while wearing this shirt, as seen in the episode "Summer Camp".

May 2011

Standing in front of Space Shuttle Enterprise at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia.

April 2011

Wearing my “Camp Rainbow” shirt for the first time.

Notes: "Camp Rainbow" is from a 1982 episode of Today's Special, "Summer Camp". This shirt is my own design, based on what was on the show.
