As the snow stops, here’s what we’ve got…

Well, it looks like the snowfall is over. The snow has stopped, and the folks at Capital Weather Gang say that clouds will decrease during the day. Meanwhile, we’re pretty much buried in the white stuff, and here’s the proof:

My car has a foot or so of snow on top of it. That snow is expected to stay on there until at least some time tomorrow, because there’s no way in hell I’m going anywhere today.

Remember that car that was nearly buried in snow, with only a foot’s worth of red paint showing? Let’s revise that to completely buried in snow. Now only the mirrors and the antenna provide any clue that there’s a car under all of that.

The steps leading up to my building. The path that people have walked in it kind of gives an indication about the depth of the snow.

Various tree stumps and a makeshift bench in the vacant lot behind my apartment. Compare to the same thing during the first snowfall of the year.

Icicles hanging from the roof of my apartment building.

Yes, my apartment complex is a bit of a winter wonderland today. And then there’s some poor person attempting to move his vehicle. They were less than successful in trying to move their car. That’s why mine’s staying put. I figure, if Metro’s gone so far as to suspend Metrobus service, you might as well forget driving.

Otherwise, I got more reports back from the “Snowpocalypse” snowball fight. Turns out that after someone accidentally hit a police officer’s Hummer with a snowball, the cop pulled a gun on them! Dude… it’s snow. Keep it in your holster.

And then as it turns out, we did get a snowball bloc after all:

Looks like they had a good time, as Legba’s call for a black bloc ended up panning out. I love seeing the lighter side of DC’s radical community. It’s good when people don’t take themselves so seriously that they can’t have a little fun.

I wish I could have gone, but it was not to be. The snow was too much to even think about driving, and then with Metro mostly shutting down, even if I’d gotten in, I’d have likely been stranded. One of the downsides to living in the suburbs, I suppose.
