Alexandria Waterfront

At the end of King Street in the Old Town district of Alexandria, we we reach the waterfront.  This is where we meet the Potomac River, beyond which is Washington DC and Maryland.  The waterfront at Alexandria is an easy place to stop and collect one’s thoughts, and for some, a destination in itself, with the Torpedo Factory Art Center and several restaurants nearby.

When I first got over to the waterfront, my first reaction was "Oh, no!" I had not expected for the waterfront docks to be under renovation on the shoot date (March 8, 2003), and I was afraid that all I would be able to see would be renovation...  When I first got over to the waterfront, my first reaction was "Oh, no!" Thankfully, though, it turned out that the dock renovations only affected a small area of the waterfront, and so on with the show!

Near the shoreline, there were a lot of floating bits of wood, which almost gave the appearance of a surface. The ducks had no problem working with it, swimming through thinner parts of it, and climbing over the thicker parts.  Near the shoreline, there were a lot of floating bits of wood, which almost gave the appearance of a surface. Meanwhile, in the distance, one can catch a glimpse of Washington DC.

The docks themselves are wooden, and look somewhat aged, and are speckled with bird poop, so watch your step.

One nice feature is the presence of wooden gazebos along some of the docks, allowing one an opportunity to stop and ponder...

Beyond another of these gazebos are some of the restaurants at the waterfront, most notably Chart House.

Further along the Potomac's banks, people can be found enjoying the absolutely wonderful day...

Along the waterfront, there are also a number of boats for quick pleasure cruises. This boat is called the Cherry Blossom.
