Botanic Garden

The United States Botanic Garden in Washington DC is a sight to behold.  So many plants of so many different types!  It’s a great refuge from the world around you, plus you get a chance to see so many different kinds of plant life that you won’t see elsewhere for miles around, as well as many rare and endangered species of plants.

Welcome to the Botanic Garden!

Welcome to the Botanic Garden!

The main part of the Botanic Garden is the Jungle, which is designed to simulate a tropical rain forest…

Notice how they maintain the environment - periodically, a mist is sprayed over the area.

Exactly how humid is it in the Jungle part of the Botanic Garden? Take a good look at the glass! It's all steamed up. The Jungle is quite warm relative to the surrounding areas, and VERY humid!

Beyond the Jungle is the Desert.  Far less humid, and matching desert conditions, we find much hardier plants than found in the Jungle.

In the Primeval and Medicinal Plants sections, more plants could be found, as kind of a middle ground in temperature and humidity between the Jungle and the Desert.

Even though it's easy to forget... this is a greenhouse!

In one of the side galleries off of the Garden Court, a Christmas display was found, combining plant life with corporate sponsorship and other Christmas-related festivities.

Very festive, don't you think?
